Vice-chairperson Tran Van Tuan had a working session with the Management Board of Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park

(Quang Binh Website) - On August 17, Vice-chairperson of the provincial People's Committee Tran Van Tuan had a working session with the Management Board of Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park (PNKB NP) on implementing its tasks in the first half and deploying key tasks in the second half of 2011. The working session was attended by representatives of related agencies and localities.

In the first half of 2011, the Management Board of PNKB NP gained acknowledged results. Concretely, the Management Board of PNKB NP updated online database of fauna and flora with 849 species of vertebrate animal, 395 species of invertebrate animal and 2,694 species of vegetable with 193 families and 907 genera; received and rescued over 37 diverse wild animals. As of July 31, PNKB NP attracted 210,443 tourists, of which 6,777 international tourists and 203,666 domestic tourists with a total turnover of over VND 11 billion.

In the next time, PNKB NP will continue to strengthen management and protection of forest; study to develop rare native plants; complete dossier to submit to UNESCO for the park's second UNESCO recognition for its biodiversity; celebrate the 10th anniversary of the establishment of PNKB NP; develop and put into use for new tourist products; speed up work of propaganda to improve awareness and responsibility of local people and tourists about environmental protection.

Addressing the working session, Vice-chairperson Tran Van Tuan acknowledged and highly valued obtained results of the Management Board of PNKB NP in the first half of 2011 and asked it to strengthen work of forest protection.

However, Mr Tuan said, the management board should have a close coordination with related agencies and localities to build up a regulation on management and protection of forest to contribute to improve the effectiveness of forest protection.

In addition, the management board should improve the quality and train skilled foresters and managers; invest and upgrade infrastructures to improve the quality of tourism, contributing to attracting tourists to Quang Binh and spreading the image of world natural heritage Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park in particular, the land and people of Quang Binh in general to foreign and domestic tourists.
