Vice Chairman Tran Tien Dung works with the United States Department of State

(Quang Binh Website) - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Tran Tien Dung has recently had a working session with the United States Department of State on matters involved to landmine and unexploded ordnance (UXO) clearance activities between US Government and Quang Binh province.

The UXO and landmine clearance project is funded by the Mines Advisory Group (MAG) with a total capital of around USD10 million. After nearly 10 years of operation, the project has obtained remarkable results. The project carried out mobile clearance activities in 93/159 communes, wards and townlets of 6 districts and city; completed 1.66 kilometers of fixed location clearance and cleared 120 ha for development activities, removing 64,624 items of UXO. After being cleared by MAG, this area of land is used for economic development and construction of welfare projects in localities.

Speaking at the working session, Vice Chairman highly evaluated the support of US Government for the UXO and landmine clearance project over the past time. He also hoped that MAG would call upon all resources and provide technical assistance for UXO clearance activities in Quang Binh. Vice Chairman promised that the province would create favorable conditions for MAG to continuously implement the UXO clearance project for second phase.
