Signing ceremony of memorandum of understanding for eye care project in Quang Binh

(Quang Binh Website) - Recently, the signing ceremony of memorandum of understanding for eye care project in Quang Binh between the Fred Hollows Foundation (FHF) and the Department of Health has been taken place.

This is the third year FHF has pledged assistance to provide free eye check-ups and operations and raise the public awareness of eye care and blindness operations for the people.

FHF operated in Quang Binh province from July 2006 to December 2007 with total investment of US$43,391. The project's objective is to raise the public awareness of eye care, reduce rate of blindness, promote eye care and treatment and provide free cataract surgery to poor patients.

Over the past time, FHF has provided free eye check-ups and operations to 632 visually impaired people in Quang Binh. Besides, the project has also invested and provided equipments for eye surgery; supported and improved the techniques according to the standards of the Minister of Health, creating favorable conditions for health stations to improve the quality of health treatment and apply the scientific and technological advances in treatment.

In 2008, FHF project continues to provide a support of US$41,260 for Quang Binh province to conduct the cataract surgery for about 50,000 poor patients, especially women and children first. With its efforts in the past time, FHF hopes that it will help the province improve the techniques, meeting the need of eye care and treatment for poor people.
