As posted news, Vietnam Airlines officially launched Dong Hoi airport and Ha Noi - Quang Binh route on May 18 2008. Dong Hoi airport is an inland terminal and has a design capacity to receive A320 and A321 airplanes as well as other medium-sized aircraft. With a comprehensive and modern equipment system, Dong Hoi airport was designed under the "four C" standard of the International Civil Aviation Organization. The terminal has the total area of 4,282 m2 and can receive 300 passengers during rush hours as well as a total of 500,000 passengers per year. As from July 208, Dong Hoi airport will open regularly with three fights a week by ATR-72 airplane on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. It is expected to increase five fights a week in the summer of 2009 and seven fights a week in 2010.

Quang Binh is a province which has many traditional festivals, many historical and cultural relics and famous landscapes, especially is home to the world natural heritage Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park, acknowledged by UNESCO in 2003 with many longest, largest and most beautiful caverns. According to the Department of Culture, Sport and Tourism, the number of tourists coming to Quang Binh in 2007 achieved about 592,000 turns of people, increased by 16% compared with year 2006, of which international tourists achieved 23,000 people and inland tourists were 569,000. Quang Binh is also a province which has a stable growth rate in GDP, reached over 10%. The province has been promoting the development of industrial parks and promulgating preferential investment policies for building infrastructure, creating favorable conditions for investors to develop production and business.

Dong Hoi Airport is expected to help Quang Binh province bring into play the strength of tourism, create favorable condition for the local people and tourists to travel, contributing to boosting the socio-economic development of Quang Binh province in particular and Central region in general.
