The draft scientific justification document for extension of PNKB NP has highlighted the natural, socio-economic characteristics, legal justification, scientific natural values for the extension of PNKB NP; as well as justification of extension scope and management solution for the extended area…

According to the justification document, the total area of PNKB NP, after extended is 123,326.66 ha, of which the extended area is 30,570.02 ha where the most significant forest types on limestone mountains are still intact, limited impacted.

In the extended area, there 598 vascular plant species (belonging to 386 genera and 127 families have been found here. However, more discoveries can be expected in the Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park in general and extension area in particular.

At the meeting, participants have focused on discussing the scientific justification of natural values and solutions for management of the extension area after the justification is approved.

At the conference, the PPC Vice-chairman requested the consultant team to uptake comments of the experts, advisors and line departments for finalization of the scientific justification document for extension of PNKB NP and asked relevant agencies to finalize the preparation of necessary procedures for submission of the justification documents to the Prime Minister for consideration and approval.
