Proposal for recognition of Dong Hoi city as a second-grade urban area

(Quang Binh Website) - The Provincial People's Committee (PPC) on April 10 held a meeting to approve the proposal for recognition of Dong Hoi city as a second-grade urban area directly governed by the provincial government. PPC Chairman Nguyen Huu Hoai presided over the meeting.

After 10 years being recognized as a third-grade urban area directly governed by the provincial government, Dong Hoi city has gained achievements in socio-economic development, improvement of the people's life, infrastructure development and urban embellishment. This is the basic criteria, creating the premise to upgrade Dong Hoi city to a second-grade urban area in the 2010-2015 period.

At the meeting, representative of the Steering Board presented the proposal in detail for recognition of Dong Hoi city as a second-grade urban area directly governed by the provincial government. So far, Dong Hoi city has reached six basic criteria of a second-grade urban area as stipulated in Circular No.34/2009/TT-BXD dated September 30 th, 2009 of the Ministry of Construction, including urban function; population size, population density, deagricultural labors, urban infrastructure systems and urban architecture with an average score of 85.66/100 points.

The proposal also put forward to measures for urban investment and development in each period and specific solutions to build and develop the city according to the standards of a second-grade urban area.

The proposal for recognition of Dong Hoi city as a second-grade urban area has an important significance to socio-economic development of the province, creating motivation to attract external resources, improve investment environment, gradually build and develop the city to become a civilized, modern and sustainable urban.

Speaking at the meeting, PPC Chairman Nguyen Huu Hoai stressed Dong Hoi city needs to research to add other criteria as stipulated in the Circular, of which focusing on criteria on education infrastructure, public transport service and trade service. Chairman also asked consulting unit to quickly complete the proposal for recognition to submit to the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee and People's Council for approval by the end of April, 2014.
