Quang Binh expands the second phase of Hon La Port
Accordingly, the provincial People's Committee approved project adjustment on expansion of the second phase of the Hon La Port with a total planned area of approximately 24 ha.
The Quang Binh Economic Zone Management Authority stated that extending Hon La Port is becoming vital because it has been operating way beyond its designed capacity of 1.2 million tonnes of cargo per year in recent years. Notably, in 2015, the port handled 1.5 million tonnes of cargo. In addition, the port is located on a strategic point along the North-South sea transport route, at a crossroads to Central Vietnam, Laos, and Thailand.
The project expansion plans to increase the port’s capacity to five million tonnes and extend the harbour area to receive up to 50,000 deadweight tonnage vessels.

With the targets of improving capacity through cargos, meeting demands for socio-economic development of Quang Binh province and enhancing the efficiency in production and business of Hon La Port, Standing Vice Chairman hoped that PTSC would take initiative in overcoming existing difficulties to invest in expanding Hon La Port.
Regarding key tasks in the furture, Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee asked PTSC of Quang Binh to strengthen loading capacity at the Hoan La Port, build up specific itinerary for each phase, aiming to enhance efficiency in production and business.
On the side of the province, it would create all favorable conditions for the unit to receive and invest in expanding the second phase of Hon La Port in the coming time.
