Quang Binh authorities chase out illegal Chinese fishing boats
Quang Binh Border Guard Command confirmed on July 19 that they had chased out Chinese fishing boats which were operating illegally in Vietnam's waters 35 nautical miles from Roon Estuary.
They received the reports about the boats on July 17. At 11.30 the same day, the authorities found the boats and used loudspeakers to issue warnings and chased the boats out of Vietnam's waters. Due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, the authorities decided not to follow regular procedures which would be to intercept the vessel and file a report before releasing the boats out of Vietnamese waters.
Quang Binh Border Guard Command ordered increased patrolling to prevent more similar cases. They also raised public awareness so that local fishermen would not commit illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing in the territorial waters of other countries.
