310th anniversary of the death of the royal mandarin Nguyễn Hữu Cảnh

(Quang Binh Website) – In order to celebrate the 310th anniversary of the death of the royal mandarin Nguyễn Hữu Cảnh, a live programme entitled “Nguoi di mo coi” was held on the night of 19 June in the form of a videoconferencing bridge directly from four points: Nguyen Huu Canh tomb (Thuy Truong – Le Thuy – Quang Binh) – Ly Thai To Garden (Hanoi) – Reunification Palace (Ho Chi Minh City) and Binh Thuy Temple (Bien Hoa – Dong Nai).

This programme, as part of the activities to celebrate the 1,000th anniversary of Thang Long-Hanoi, was broadcasted on Quang Binh, Ha Noi, Ho Chi Minh, Dong Nai and An Giang Radio and Television Station channels at 8.30pm. The “Nguoi di mo coi” programme was jointed organized by the Ministry of Information and Communications and the Quang Binh Provincial People’s Committee.

At Quang Binh bridge point, there was the participation of Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee Hoang Dang Quang; Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Huu Hoai; members of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee, People’s Council, People’s Committee and Vietnamese Fatherland Front Committee of Quang Binh province; representatives of departments, branches and localities together with historians, researchers and descendant of royal mandarin Nguyen Huu Canh and local people.

Provincial leaders offer incense to commemorate Royal Mandarin Nguyen Huu Canh

In the solemn atmosphere from four bridge points, the leaders and delegates together with local people offered incense to express their deep gratefulness to royal mandarin Nguyen Huu Canh’s credit for expanding our territories to the south and laying foundations for the city of Saigon-Ho Chi Minh City.

Nguyen Huu Canh (1650-1700) was born in Phuoc Long village, Chuong Tin commune, Phong Loc district, in today’s Van Ninh commune, Quang Ninh district, Quang Binh province. Growing up during the Trinh – Nguyen War, Nguyen Huu Canh spent all his time in the practice of martial arts so that he would be able to join his father in his military campaigns. Though still young, Canh had won many battles and was promoted by Lord Nguyen Phuc Tan to Cai Co, a high-ranking army officer’s rank, when he was in his twenties. Nguyen Huu Canh was a good army commander who had been using his talent and virtue to placate people. He has contributed a great part in the southward march of our people; he brought prosperity to the people. Therefore, he was well respected, much thanked, and adored by the people. Nowadays, temples honoring Le Thanh Hau (Earl) Nguyen Huu Canh exist in many localities. The biggest of these are in An Giang, Dong Nai and Quang Binh provinces. There also is a temple venerating Nguyen Huu Canh in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

An art performance entitled “Người đi mở cõi”

After an incense-offering ceremony, a music performance with the participation of more than 400 artists was performed to praise the great contributions of royal mandarin Nguyen Huu Canh. Especially, the performance entitled “Nguoi di mo coi” represented the historical background of the period of Nguyen Huu Canh who was credited for expanding the territories to the south and laying foundations for the city of Saigon-Ho Chi Minh City; praised the historical tradition of the land and people of Quang Binh.

An exchange with Nguyen Huu Canh’s 10th descendant

An exchange was taken place with the historians, researchers and Nguyen Huu Canh’s 10th descendant to help us have a comprehensive view on royal mandarin Nguyen Huu Canh.
  
Addressing the ceremony, Chairman of the Quang Binh Provincial People’s Committee stressed that the event was to record the royal mandarin Nguyen Huu Canh’s great contributions; to educate young generation about the love of motherland and nation; to honor the values of historical personages in the cause of the for national liberation struggle, building and protecting the fatherland; and to popularize the image of motherland, culture and people of Quang Binh in order to promote investment and develop tourism in the provincial area.

On this occasion, the Cienco5 Real Estate Development Joint-stock Company donated VND200 million to repair Nguyen Huu Canh’s tomb in Truong Thuy commune, Le Thuy district.
