Dong Hoi city environmental sanitation project kicked off for second phase

(Quang Binh Portal) – The Provincial People’s Committee on June 16 held a meeting with a mission of the World Bank (WB) on implementing the Dong Hoi city environmental sanitation project for the second phase.

Participants included Mr. Nguyen Xuan Quang, Standing Deputy Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee; Mr. Le Duy Hung, Project Director and Senior Urban Specialist together with representatives of agenices, units and localities involved.

The "Dong Hoi City Environmental Sanitation Project" is a part of the "Coastal Cities Environmental Sanitation Project”. The purpose of this sub-project is to upgrade environmental sanitation conditions for Dong Hoi City and improve the quality of life for local people.

The Project has been implemented in two phases. With total investment capital of US$73.8 million, including over US$59 million from the WB’s preferential loans, over US$1.3 million in non-refundable aid and the remainder sourced from local budget.

The Project’s first phase built 1.7 km of Phong Thuy canal and 04 km of Cau Rao river, upgraded Nam Ly lake with scope of 1,000m and put into use of Duc Ninh waste treatment plant with a capacity of 6,200 cubic metres per day.

Besides, the project also invested in construction of Ly Trach lanfills with a capacity of 100 tons per day; collected, transported and treated solid waste for 26,000 households; carried out compensation for site clearances with a total cost of US$5.54 for 569 affected households, built 18 schools with 24,737 benefited students and so on.

The second phase of this sub-project will focus on four components, including controlling flooding and drainage and sewerage collection, management of solid waste, school sanitation program; compensation and site clearances; social development infrastructures and enhancing capacity of relevant agencies.

Speaking at the meeting, Standing Deputy Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee acknowledged results obtained in the project’s first phase. For the second phase, Deputy Chairman aksed relevant agencies and units to have a close coordination to carry out the project as scheduled, avoiding overlapping between the projects.
