The Dong Hoi City Environmental Sanitation Project for second phase aims to improve environmental sanitation sustainably and raise the quality of life for local people.

The first phase of the project has been completed in 2015 with total investment capital of US$73.8 million, including US$59.628 million from the WB’s preferential loans, over US$1.3 million in non-refundable aid and the remainder sourced from local budget.

The project focused on building and upgrading the rainwater drainage system, building a waste water treatment plant, supporting a sanitation programme at schools, supplying garbage collecting equipment and enhancing communication campaigns. The Duc Ninh waste water treatment plant is designed to treat 6.200 cubic metres of waste water per day discharged from local residents in the city. The project has invested to build Ly Trach garbage dump with a capacity of more than 100 tons per day to treat garbage collected from 26,000 households...

The second phase of the project will focus on four components, including development of environmental sanitation infrastructures (flooded reduction, drainage, waste water treatment, solid waste management and school sanitation); social development infrastructure; compensation, site clearance and support for project implementation; improving capacity for community environmental protection... with a total estimated investment of about US$58 million, including US$50 million from the WB's preferential loans and US$8 million from corresponding capital of Vietnam.

Speaking at the meeting, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee recorded the timely and effective assistance from WB in the process of implementing the project's first phase as well as work of preparation for its second phase. Chairman undertook to direct implementation of the project's second phase on schedule, hoping that WB will continue to provide a support of technique and source of capital to effectively carry out the project, contributing to improving infrastructure on environment and reduction of environmental pollution, promoting sustainable socio-economic development for Dong Hoi city.
