Quang Binh to launch more protection of langurs
On January 15, Centre for Indigenous Knowledge Research and Development (CIRD) collaborated with the Forest Protection Department in Quang Binh and Tuyen Hoa District People's Committee to hold a conference about the current state and protective measures for the Hatinh langurs in Tuyen Hoa.
The langurs have been under protection after they were detected and brought to Dong Hoa Commune, Tuyen Hoa District. Since then, they have developed well. The CIRD also discovered two groups with 30 Assam macaque that live together in Dong Hoa.
Various measures have been proposed including preventing forest encroachment, illegal logging or natural resources exploitation and find more places for the groups to expand and find food. Cattle grazing should also be limited.
Local authorities were asked to have more detailed plans and raise public awareness to protect the forest and the langurs together.
In Vietnam, Hatinh langurs are only registered in Quang Binh and a small group was found in Quang Tri Province.
