Quang Tri and Khammouane enhance cooperation in border patrol and protection
On June 10, 2026, at the Cha Lo International Border Gate Border Guard Station, the Command of the Quang Tri Provincial Border Guard, in coordination with the Military Command of Laos’ Khammouane Province,, conducted a joint bilateral patrol and inspection of the border area and border markers No. 527, 528 and 529 in Dan Hoa Commune in Quang Tri Province.

Attending the event from Quang Tri Province were Mr. Hoang Nam, Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, and Senior Colonel Trinh Thanh Binh, Commander of the Provincial Border Guard Command. Representing Khammouane Province were Det Sakda Manikham, Vice Governor of the Provincial Administration, and Senior Colonel Sisomphou Keobounlom, Political Commissar of the Khammouane Provincial Military Command. The patrol was also joined by representatives of relevant departments, agencies and local authorities from both provinces, as well as officials from Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park and Hin Nam No National Park.

During the patrol, the delegation inspected the border line and border markers No. 527, 528 and 529, while also clearing vegetation, cleaning and repainting the markers in accordance with regulations. The inspection confirmed that the border line and marker system remain intact and well maintained, and that border management regulations are being strictly observed by local authorities and residents on both sides of the border.

Following the joint patrol, the two sides held a review meeting to assess the results of their cooperation. They noted that, in recent years, the relevant authorities of Quang Tri and Khammouane provinces have effectively maintained coordination mechanisms in border management and protection. These efforts have contributed to safeguarding political security and social order in border areas, while further strengthening the solidarity and friendship between the two localities.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Hoang Nam, Standing Vice Chairman of the Quảng Trị Provincial People’s Committee, and Det Sakda Manikham, Vice Chairman of the Khammouane Provincial Administration, commended the close coordination between the Party organizations and authorities of the two provinces, particularly the core forces of the Quang Tri Provincial Border Guard Command and the Khammouane Provincial Military Command. They highly valued the two sides’ cooperation in managing and safeguarding the border line and border marker system, as well as their proactive exchange of information in addressing emerging issues. These joint efforts have contributed significantly to maintaining political security and social order in border areas.

In the time ahead,, Party committees, local authorities and, in particular, the Quang Tri Provincial Border Guard Command and the Khammouane Provincial Military Command will continue to build on their long-standing tradition of cooperation and further strengthen the friendship and solidarity between the two Parties and the two nations, Vietnam and Laos. In line with their assigned functions and responsibilities, the two sides will enhance cooperation, information exchange and joint patrols, while promptly addressing issues arising along the border. These efforts will contribute to effective border management and protection, the preservation of the border line and marker system, and the continued development of a peaceful, friendly, cooperative and prosperous neighborly relationship between the two countries.

Overview of the conference
At the conference, the Command of the Provincial Border Guard and the Military Command of Khammouane Province signed a memorandum on the inspection of the border line, border markers, and joint patrol activities at markers No. 527, 528, and 529. Under the agreement, both sides pledged to continue effectively implementing the common understandings reached by the senior leaders of the two countries and existing bilateral cooperation mechanisms; maintain delegation exchanges and contacts at all levels; strengthen coordination in border management and protection; strictly implement the two legal documents governing the border; conduct joint patrols; and cooperate closely in combating cross-border crime.

In addition, the two sides will continue to closely coordinate in monitoring the situation, promptly exchanging information, and further strengthening joint border patrols and the management of border markers in accordance with the agreements previously signed. They also pledged to stand ready to jointly conduct search-and-rescue operations and provide disaster relief in the event of fires, natural disasters, or disease outbreaks in border areas, following the directives of higher authorities. Local Party committees, authorities, and relevant agencies of both sides will enhance information dissemination, education, and public awareness campaigns to encourage border residents to strictly comply with the Agreement on Border Management Regulations and Land Border Checkpoints signed between the Governments of the two countries.
