According to the report of the Department of Planning and Investment, as of late April 2008, the total area under cultivation in the whole province achieved 53,772 ha, equal to 100,9% compared with the same period. A lot of big changes have been seen in animal husbandry. The work of inspection and control has been well implemented, so no outbreak was discovered. Work of inoculation against an epidemic for herd of cattle and poultry has been being carried out actively in all districts and city in the provincial area.

Regarding production and business: Because of drastic fluctuation of oil price, the output of exploited fishery products is lower than the same period. Industrial production value in April achieved VND733.27 billion, increased by 21.96% against the same period, in which State economy reached VND467.84 billion, increased by 28.68%; non-State economy reached VND246.6 billion, increased by 12.6% and foreign-invested economy reached VND18.82 billion, increased by 0.92% compared with the same period. Total export turnover in April was estimated to reach US$2,096.9 thousand, decreased by 50% against the same period. The cost of living index in April increased by 3.35% in comparison with last month, up to 20.96% against the same period. At present, the number of tourists to Quang Binh is very crowded, reaching 39.1 thousand turns of people, increasing by 29% compared with the same period. The number of tourists to Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park in April alone was 30,000 people, increased by 53.7% against the same period.

In the first four months of 2008, the province has carried out many measures to accelerate the speed of implementing investment capital for capital construction; issued the Certificate of Investment for 17 projects with total capital of VND 5,895 billion and signed a cooperative agreement on the project of building recreational and cultural park with the total invested capital of VND26.080 billion with China.

Regarding social - cultural, health and education fields: the Department of Education and Training has continuously implemented the campaign to fight negative phenomena in exam and an addiction to "achievement" in education. Work out many active measures to reduce the dropping out of school. Strengthen work of prevention and against diarrhea, bird flu AH5N1, “ear-blue” pig disease and other epidemics. Deploy the plans for the five-year anniversary of Phong Nha – Ke Bang recognized as the World Natural Heritage held in July 26 2008.

Addressing the meeting, Chairman Phan Lam Phuong highly praised the efforts of all departments and branches in the past time and stressed, "At present, the drastic fluctuation of price affects to the people’s life, especially poor households, so all departments should actively deploy measures to curb inflation and stabilize socio – economic situation". Simultaneously, Chairman also asked all branches and localities to promote the program for breeding development, pay much attention to improving the quality of herd of cattle and poultry; keep a close watch on the situation of bird flu, foot-and-mouth disease, especially “ear-blue” pig disease, which is happening in the surrounding provinces. Continue to create favorable conditions for investors to implement the project of new industrial production, help the province’s enterprises promote their production and business, strengthen import-export activities and budget receipts; continuously implement the action program of the Provincial People’s Committee on practising thrift and combating waste and anti-corruption.
