In the first six months of 2008, the province’s socio-economic situation has remained a fair growth rate, GDP growth rate in six months achieved 11.3%. The output of winter-spring rice harvest achieved 165,316 tons, equaling 102.3% against the same period, reached 72.4% of yearly plan; the average rice production achieved 53.59 quintal/ha. At present, the farmers focus on cultivating the summer-autumn rice and they has so far sowed 23,418 ha, equaling 84.25% over the same period. The caught aquatic production achieved 52.5% of the plan, increased by 2.89% compared with the same period. Industrial production value in the first six months achieved 44.56% of the plan, increased by 22.2% against the same period. Some products had high growth rate like: cement, clinker, and beer. Many great changes have been seen in export activity. Export turnovers in six months was US$24.8 million, reached 45.1% of the plan. The total retail sales and services in six months were estimated at VND2,806.8 billion, reached 52.5% of the plan, increased by 33.8% compared with the same period. Work of market management, against struggling and trade fraudulent has been strengthened. National defence and security have been upheld.

At the meeting, the delegates highly agreed with the draft report on the socio-economic situation in the first six months of the Provincial People’s Committee and put forward the ideas and suggestions of investment attraction, environmental protection, solutions for production stabilization and so on.

Closing the meeting, Chairman Phan Lam Phuong stressed that: All levels and branches should pay much attention to accelerating State budget revenues, directing the localities to speed up the production for summer-autumn crop, striving to achieve the target and exceeding the set plan, ensuring the food supply for the people. Strengthening work of management and making full use of mineral resources. Checking investment in trade villages, encouraging households and enterprises to invest in trade villages, contributing to improving the efficiency of trade villages. Continuously promoting the development of education and training to improve the human resource quality, and completing secondary compulsory education. Carrying out the drastic solutions to minimize traffic accidents, increasing the responsibility of agencies, unions and all levels of government as well as each household in executing regulations of traffic safety. Dealing with environmental pollution in the cement plants to ensure for the people’s life.
