Project ''Strengthen participation in poverty alleviation through wet rice cultivation'' in Trong Hoa commune

(Quang Binh Website) - The Minh Hoa district People's Committee and the CRS Organization (US relief and development organization) have recently held a signing ceremony to implement the Project "Strengthen participation in poverty alleviation through wet rice cultivation" in Trong Hoa commune.

CRS is a US non-governmental organization that has been operating in Viet Nam for more than 10 years. CRS projects assist local counterparts to build capacity in the areas of agricultural market access, natural resource management, inclusive education for children with disabilities, landmines/UXO risk education, counter trafficking in humans, emergency response and preparedness, prevention, care and treatment for persons affected by HIV/AIDS.

The Project "Strengthen participation in poverty alleviation through wet rice cultivation" is carried out from August 2008 to July 2009 with the total invested capital of about US$62,165, of which US$54,500 of the CRS Organization and US$7,665 of local budget. The project's goal is to assist the farmers to build a system of irrigation to serve wet rice cultivation, reclaim and widen area under cultivation, apply scientific and technological advances into production to improve the productivity and quality of products. Through this project, 101 households of Khua ethnic minority people in La Trong village will be benefited and 2,800 local people will be indirectly benefited from the project.
