Phong Nha - Ke Bang national park region project deploys work plan for 2011
The PNKB Region project is sponsored by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) through the direct contribution of the German Development Bank (KFW) and GIZ. Project duration is eight years. The objective of the project is to contribute to the nature conservation and the sustainable management of natural resources in the Phong Nha-Ke Bang region and reduce the pressure on the natural resources in PNKB region.
The project management board proposes its work plan for 2011, including 156 activities with four main contents. Specifically, the national park’s management and protection capacity is improved; the buffer zone resources are sustainably managed in participation with local communities; the strategy for sustainable and diversified tourism is implemented; development results of the project are achieved effectively and efficiently. A total reimbursement is expected to reach EUR4.26 million.

At the meeting, Vice-chairman highlighted the efforts made by the project management board in the past time. In order to implement the plan for 2011, Vice-chairman asked all agencies and units to create favorable conditions for the project management board to implement well the plan for 2011. Vice-chairman emphasized that the project management board needs to focus on sponsoring livelihood development in 13 buffer zone communes; implementing some economic models to scale up of buffer zone development; building up the management plan for PNKB National Park; paying attention to reforestation and forest development to develop 4,200 ha of newly-planted forest and regenerate 11,000 ha of forest.
