Two species of scorpion found

Dr. Pham Dinh Sac and Dr. Wilson Lourenco have just found a species of scorpion, scientifically named as “Vietbocap thienduongensis Lourenco & Pham”, or “bo cap thien duong” (Thien Duong scorpion), in Thien Duong Cave in the Phong Nha–Ke Bang National Park in Quang Binh Province, as published in an international magazine, C.R.Biologies, in early 2012.

Thien Duong scorpion, a new species found in Phong Nha Ke Bang National Park.

Previously, the two scientists announced another species of scorpion, named as “Vietbocap canhi Lourenco & Pham”, found in Tien Son Cave in 2010.

With their habitat in caves, these two species of scorpion, a Pseudochactidae family, are rare species in the world.

The discovery brought the number of species of scorpion, to 4, and partly affirms the biological diversity in Vietnam in general, and in the Phong Nha–Ke Bang National Park in particular.
