Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Le Minh Ngan said oil spills often occur in coastal areas and estuaries.
According to preliminary statistics, from 1992 to 2017, the country witnessed 140 oil spills in coastal areas, seaports and petrol stations, causing serious economic losses and environmental pollution in the long run.
Quang Binh has a coastline of over 116 km with a large network of rivers, seaports, fishing ports, storm shelters and increasing petroleum transportation activities.
Therefore, the enhancement of communications and dissemination about plans to deal with oil spills for relevant forces is an urgent task, Ngan said.
Participants were equipped with general knowledge about the prevention and settlement of oil spill incidents when they penetrate into aquaculture areas and other sensitive ones.
They were also introduced to the government’s Decree 30 stipulating the organisation of activities to cope with natural disasters and improve search and rescue efforts.
The training course was jointly held by the National Committee on Disaster Response and Search and Rescue and the provincial People’s Committee.
