13th Dong Hoi City traditional boat race festival 2013

(Quang Binh Webiste) - In the framework of the Dong Hoi Culture-Tourism Week 2013, the 13th Dong Hoi traditional boat race festival was held on Nhat Le River in the morning of April 30th in celebration of the 38th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Unification Day (April 30, 1975- 2013) and May Day (May 1).

The race attracted 7 teams with nearly 200 athletes coming from 9 wards/communes of Dong Hoi city, including Quang Phu, Phu Hai, Hai Thanh and Dong Duong, Ha Thon, Ha Trung and Trung Binh villages (Bao Ninh commune). They competed for the prizes with the race’s length of 7km.

Boat race is a traditional sport of coastal residents which was originated from long time ago and takes place on the national holidays. This is a significant and great festival, contributing to create a jubilant and exciting atmosphere to welcome the nation’s great holiday.

From early in the morning, thousands of locals and tourists inside and outside of the province gathered along Nhat Le River with the flags and slogans to enjoy and cheer for the race.

After a long time of competition in jubilant and animated atmosphere, Ha Trung village’s team (Bao Ninh commune) won first prize, followed by Ha Thon village (Bao Ninh commune) and Phu Hai ward won third prize. Quang Phu commune, Hai Thanh ward and Trung Binh village and Dong Duong village (Bao Ninh commune) were presented with consolation prizes.
