VTV Cycling Tournament - Ton Hoa Sen Cup 2017

 (Quang Binh Portal) - On September 6th, the Department of Culture - Sport in coordination with the VTV, the Vietnam Sports Bicycle and Motorbike Federation, Unic Media Company and Hoa Sen Group held a ceremony to award the fifth stage of VTV International Cycling Tournament - Ton Hoa Sen Cup 2017 with the itinerary from Ha Tinh to Quang Binh.

This is a cultural - sport activity to celebrate the 72nd anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day (September 2).

The event aims to encourage cycling nationwide, improve cyclists’ skills and preparations for international tournaments. It is also a chance for the organising board, social activists and people nationwide to help thousands of poor students across the country during the competition.

This year’s race, consisted of 14 stages covering over 1,800 km along the length of the country, has attracted 84 cyclists from seven domestic teams and eight foreign teams such as Vinh Long Premium Cycling, Can Tho, Domesco Pharmacy Dong Thap, Hat Ngoc Troi An Giang, Hanoi Cycling, VUS-HCM City, Bike Life Dong Nai, Philippines, South Korea, Singapore and the Netherlands. It passes through numerous cities and provinces and finishes in Ho Chi Minh City on September 17.

A total bonus of VND1.2 billion (US$52,600) will be awarded to the best cyclists, of which the overall winner who bags the yellow jersey will pocket VND120 million.

During these two weeks, organisers and athletes will present more than 46,000 gifts and 200 bikes to poor students in localities they pass through with a total money of more than VND6 million.

After three hours of competition, cyclists finished the 5th stage from Ha Tinh to Quang Binh with a total length of 148km.

Cyclist Le Van Duan of VUS-HCM City came first. He was followed by Le Nguyet Minh from VUS-HCM City for second position and Tran Nguyen Duy Nhan of Military Zone 7 for third position.

Speaking at the ceremony, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee highly valued the VTV Cycling Tournament - Ton Hoa Sen Cup 2017. He stressed this is also a good opportunity to popularise culture, people and tourism of Quang Binh in general, the world's natural heritage of Phong Nha - Ke Bang in particular to domestic and foreign friends, contributing to attract more tourists and promote socio-economic development of the province.

On the morning of September 7th, cyclists will complete the 6th stage from Quang Binh to Hue with a total length of 158km.
