Over US$20 million to develop sustainable tourism for Greater Mekong Sub-Region

(Quang Binh Website) - The Asian Development Bank (ADB) continues its 2nd phase aid in developing sustainable tourism for 5 provinces of Quang Tri, Thua Thien-Hue, Quang Binh, Bac Kan, Cao Bang with total initial investment of over US$20mil for the five-year period (2008-2013).

"After completing the 1st phase of the Mekong Tourism Project for two provinces of An Giang and Kien Giang on developing community tourism, as of this May, ADB will continue its 2nd phase aid in developing sustainable tourism for 5 provinces of Quang Tri, Thua Thien-Hue, Quang Binh, Bac Kan, Cao Bang with total initial investment of over US$20mil for the five-year period (2008-2013)", Mr Nguyen Huy, Head of Quang Tri province’s Tourism Areas Management Board, Director of the Sustainable Tourism Development Project Management Board for the Greater Mekong Sub-Region said.

Quang Tri province alone, ADB offers a US$1,698mil aid, in which US$425,000 for poverty reduction and US$1.211 million for tourism development in the East-West Economic Corridor (EWEC).

ADB also provides US$1.7 million for building infrastructure of Cua Viet - Cua Tung eco-sea sustainable tourism project in Quang Tri province.

The Sustainable Tourism Development Project for Greater Mekong Sub-Region, financed by the ADB, is in the strategy for common development of six countries of the Greater Mekong Sub-Region, mainly two countries of Vietnam and Laos in order to bring into play the advantage in transport of the EWEC, exploit the potential of natural resources, develop trade and tourism and alleviate poverty.
