Grand requiem for heroes and martyrs on legendary Ho Chi Minh trail

(Quang Binh Website) - On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the opening Ho Chi Minh trail – Traditional Day of the Truong Son Soldiers (May 19, 1959 – May 19, 2009), the Executive Council of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha in coordination with the People’s Committee of Quang Binh province and the Managing Board of the Vinh Nghiem Ancient Pagoda (Ho Chi Minh City) solemnly held a great requiem ceremony for the souls of heroes and martyrs who died on the historic Ho Chi Minh trail during the resistance war against the US imperialists.

The mass was held at km16, on Road 20 of the current Ho Chi Minh highway, in Son Trach commune, Bo Trach district, Quang Binh province in central Vietnam from May 14 – 15.

Attending the grand requiem was Culture, Sport and Tourism Minister Hoang Tuan Anh, provincial leaders, representative of related departments and branches and relatives of heroes and martyrs.

Addressing the ceremony, Most Venerable Thich Thanh Tu, Vice President of the Executive Council of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, highlighted the patriotism and determination of Vietnamese fighters and people, who were ready to sacrifice their lives for national independence and reunification.

The great requiem ceremony for heroes and martyrs was an opportunity for Vietnamese people to review the glorious history of the nation and show grateful spirit of Buddhism and the gratefulness to heroic war martyrs who laid down their lives for the cause of the national liberation.
