Quang Binh invests US$38.8 million to cope with climate change

(Quang Binh Website) - Quang Binh province has approved a Resolution on implementation of the urban infrastructure and environmental development project to cope with climate change in Dong Hoi city with total capital of US$38.8 million for the first phase.

The project is to reduce environmental pollution, improve urban environment and minimize the impacts of climate change, contributing to improving health conditions and quality of life for Dong Hoi city’s residents. It also aims to facilitate the development and integration of the city’s suburbs while boosting development of industry, tourism, and services in Dong Hoi city.

The project includes some main components: dredging and upgrading drainage systems in six communes and wards in Dong Hoi City, developing urban infrastructure to adapt to climate change and improving urban flood management and other infrastructures.

The project is scheduled to last for six year, beginning from January of 2015 to December of 2020.

The total capital for the project’s first phase is US$38.8 million, of which US$30 million is sourced from ODA loans provided by the Asian Development Ban (ADB); US$1.73 million from non-refundable ODA and US$7.07 million contributed by the local government.

The province also approved a repayment plan for the project in the duration of 20 years, starting in 2021.

Reportedly, this is the first project on urban infrastructure construction and environmental development in response to climate change implemented in Quang Binh where is often affected by natural disasters and floods.
