Quang Binh, World Bank discuss environmental sanitation project 2 worth US$58 million

(Quang Binh Portal) - The Provincial People"s Committee on November 13 held a meeting with a World Bank (WB) delegation to exchange the Dong Hoi city sustainable environmental project. Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People"s Committee Nguyen Xuan Quang presided over the meeting.

The Dong Hoi city environmental sanitation project with a total investment of US$78.5 million was synchronously conducted on environmental sanitation infrastructures in Dong Hoi city during the 2007-2014 period.

The project has contributed to mitigate environmental pollution and the flooding for central areas of the city, change the landscapes of Dong Hoi, helping to make it a modern and environment-friendly and sustainable city.

Based on the effeciency of the project for first phase, the Quang Binh Provincial People's Committee submitted the proposal for the environmental sanitation project 2 to the Ministry of Planning and Investment, relevant ministries and WB in early 2014.

Accordingly, the project has a total investment of US$58.11 million with four components, including sanitation infrastructure, environmental infrastructure, resettlements and site clearance, and technical assistance and institutional reform.

At the meeting, delegates focused on discussing solutions for implementation and information relating to the environmental project 2, the schedule and action plan in the coming time.

Concluding at the meeting, Standing Vice Chairman Nguyen Xuan Quang pledged to direct and make full use of the project's first phase and hoped that WB would take advantage of source of capital to continuously assist the province in conducting the project's second phase.

In addition, he also asked relevant agencies to accelerate the progress of preparation for working with relevant ministries and agencies to adjust the project's second phase for approval in December 2015.
