The film was broadcast on the Good Morning America in 2015, and won a prize in the news and documentary category.

The New York City Drone Film Festival, which took place on March 4-6 at the DGA Theater in New York, attracted 150 film entries from 19 countries.

After the film won the award, the film crew shared pictures of the award ceremony and compliments on Son Doong on their Facebook pages.

Located in the UNESCO-recognised Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park of Bo Trach district, Quang Binh province, Son Doong Cave was discovered by a local man named Ho Khanh in 1991. In 2009, a group of British explorers from the British Cave Research Association, led by Howard Limbert conducted a survey and then announced that it is biggest known cave in the world, renowned for its unique eco-system.

Son Doong Cave is more than 200m wide, 150m high, and about 9km long. It also houses a jungle and a river, and could fit a 40-storey skyscraper within its walls.

It was recently suggested by the American news website Huffingtonpost.com as one of the places to visit. Son Doong was also listed in the “52 Places to Go in 2014″ by New York Times travel.

Good Morning America broadcast the report on May 13, 2015, to six million viewers. The film used a drone camera to show off the enormity of the cave and its natural beauty. The program attracted millions of viewers around the world.

Millions of people have tried to book tours to see the cave after the film was broadcast but Oxalis Travel Co, the only tour company licensed to conduct trips to the cave, said that tours are booked out until the end of 2016.

A spokesman for Oxalis said more than 1,000 people had booked the five-day four-night tour, at a cost of USD3,000 a person.

Tours to Son Doong are restricted to 450 visitors a year.
