The programme, inked between the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, the Vietnam Red Cross Society, the Vietnam Young Entrepreneurs Association, and the TTC Group, aims to provide timely support to help local people settle down quickly.
With each house costing 50 million VND (about 2,160 USD), construction will total 5 billion VND, with 2.5 billion VND coming from the entrepreneurs association and the remainder from TTC.
The funding will be allocated to ten provinces affected by the recent storms and flooding: Quang Binh, Ha Tinh, Nghe An, Kon Tum, Gia Lai, Dak Nong, Binh Dinh, Phu Yen, Khanh Hoa, and Ninh Thuan.
In the first quarter of 2021, the VFF Committee of HCM City is set to work with authorities in these provinces to list beneficiaries and get construction underway.
New houses will be handed over in the second quarter to targeted households, including poor, near-poor, and ethnic minority households and those in border areas.
Natural disasters have claimed 280 lives and caused total losses of approximately 29.9 trillion VND in Vietnam since the beginning of 2020, according to a report released in mid-November by the National Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control.
They also injured 856 people and left 66 missing. Torrential rain, floods, and landslides destroyed 3,420 houses, damaged over 327,700, and submerged nearly 509,800, affecting the livelihoods of millions of people.
