At the meeting, Standing Vice Chairman of the Quang Tri Provincial People’s Committee Hoang Nam congratulated Nguyen Van Dung on being entrusted by the Party and State with the position of Consul General of Vietnam in Savannakhet. He also spoke highly of the Consulate General’s role in promoting cooperation between Vietnam and the central Lao provinces, including Quang Tri.

Standing Vice Chairman Hoang Nam said that Quang Tri shares a land border of nearly 410 kilometers with three Lao provinces: Khammouane, Savannakhet, and Salavan. The province has three international border gates and plays an important role along the East-West Economic Corridor. Quang Tri is focusing on investing in infrastructure in border-gate areas and improving transport connectivity, developing logistics, and enhancing customs clearance capacity, with the aim of gradually establishing a cross-border logistics service chain.

Quang Tri considers strengthening and enhancing friendly relations and cooperation with Lao localities an important, regular, and long-term political task. As part of its strategy to reposition its development space under the vision of “Reaching East, Spreading West” the province seeks to step up connectivity with central Lao localities and make full use of trade routes running through international border gates and the East-West Economic Corridor.

Standing Vice Chairman of the Quang Tri Provincial People’s Committee Hoang Nam expressed his hope that the Consulate General of Vietnam in Savannakhet would continue to serve as a bridge, supporting Quang Tri in strengthening exchanges and cooperation with Savannakhet and other central Lao localities; connecting businesses; promoting investment, trade, and tourism; and facilitating transport and logistics routes from central Laos through Quang Tri.

At the same time, the province called for support in helping Quang Tri businesses expand their investment activities in Laos in promising sectors such as wind power, mining, large-timber forestry, and high-tech agriculture, as well as in coordinating efforts to address difficulties and obstacles faced by Vietnamese enterprises operating in Laos.

The province also expressed its desire to strengthen cooperation in promoting the value of Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park in Vietnam and Hin Nam No National Park in Laos, thereby contributing to the preservation and promotion of the transboundary World Heritage Site shared by Vietnam and Laos. At the same time, Quang Tri seeks to promote the development of the Lao Bao-Densavan Cross-Border Economic and Trade Zone, helping create a new driving force for development in the western border area of Quang Tri Province.

Speaking at the meeting, Consul General Nguyen Van Dung expressed his delight at Quang Tri’s development achievements and highly appreciated the comprehensive and effective cooperation between Quang Tri and Lao localities.

Consul General Nguyen Van Dung affirmed that in the coming time, the Consulate General of Vietnam in Savannakhet will continue to play its role as a bridge, supporting Quang Tri in enhancing exchanges with central Lao provinces and promoting cooperation in investment, trade, transport, logistics, and exchanges between agencies and localities on both sides.
