Responding to World Environment Day and Vietnam Sea and Island Week 2013

(Quang Binh Website) - On June 4th in Dong Hoi city, the Department of Natural Resources and Environment in collaboration with the Provincial Youth Union held a meeting in response to the World Environment Day 2013 (June 5th) and Vietnam Sea and Island Week 2013 (June 1st-8th).

The meeting was attended by Chairman of the provincial People's Committee (PPC) Nguyen Huu Hoai; Standing Vice Chairman of PPC Nguyen Xuan Quang and representatives of departments and armed forces as well as youth union members in the province.

With the theme “Think, Eat, Save, Reduce your foodprint”, a number of activities to mark World Environment Day 2013 are underway across the country. This year’s event is designed to enhance the important role of every individual to environmental protection, encourage people become more aware of the environmental impact of the food choices they make and empowers them to make informed decisions.

Vietnam’s Sea and Island Week 2013 is held from June 1st to June 8th with the theme “Acting together for seas and islands of the homeland”. The aim of the week is to raise people’s awareness about the important role of the sea and islands in national construction and defence, and highlight the necessity of environmental protection. This is also a good opportunity to introduce and popularize the potential, achievements and experiences, as well as seek opportunities to develop sea and island economy of localities.

Speaking at the meeting, Chairman of PPC Nguyen Huu Hoai highly evaluated achievements obtained in environmental protection over the past time and emphasized the important role of all levels and agencies, especially young generations in response to activities to mark World Environment Day and Vietnam's Sea and Island Week 2013.

Chairman also calls on Quang Binh youth to join efforts in protecting the seas and islands of the homeland; minimizing waste of natural resources and actively participating in the clean-up.

"This is a meaningful activity to contribute to make Quang Binh province become green, clean and beautiful", Chairman said.

In response to the World Environment Day and Vietnam Sea and Island Week 2013, 60 youth union members participated in the street parade and cleaned up in Dong Hoi and Nam Ly markets.
