Strengthen public participation in socio-economic development

(Quang Binh Website) - The Pro-poor Participatory Development Project (PPDP) was implemented in 72 villages of 8 communes of Minh Hoa district, Quang Binh province from January 2011 and will end in June this year.
The project was funded by Plan International in Australia at a cost of 19 billion VND (893,000 USD).

It aims to improve the local awareness of of the local authorities and the people in participating to make and implement social economic development planning at the locality, especially at the commune level and make them more proactive in raising their opinions.

Mr. Glenn Gibney, Director of Plan International Vietnam said that the project has boosted public involvement in consultative activities and development planning at villages.

More than 7 billion VND from the project was spent on community development activities proposed by local residents, with the aim at dealing with difficulties in socio-economic development and poverty reduction.

At a March 5 workshop held in the province to review the results of the project, the participants shared experience in intensifying the participation of the poor, ethnic people, women and youths in socio-economic development and discussed orientations to maintain and uphold the project’s obtained results in the past time.
