Announcement ceremony of the overall planning for construction of Cha Lo border gate economic zone through 2030
Accordingly, the overall planning for Cha Lo border gate economic zone through 2030 includes adminitrative boundaries of six communes in Minh Hoa district, namely Dan Hoa, Trong Hoa, Hoa Thanh, Hoa Phuc, Hong Hoa and Hoa Tien with a total natural area of 53,923 hectares.
Cha Lo border gate economic zone is planned and developed to become the economic center and the busy urban area in the west of the province. It will be a transshipment junction and center for export-import products and services of Quang Binh province in connection with neighbouring countries of Laos and Thailand, ensuring national security and defence.
The development of Cha Lo border gate economic zone will contribute to improving the livelihood of local people and neighboring regions, developing infrastructure and promoting socio-economic development of the locality.
In the recent years, trade and export-import activities via Cha Lo border gate economic zone has achieved a high growth. Export-import turnover in 2013 achieved over US$1.6 billion, up 260% from the same period last year; budget revenues reached over VND250 billion, up 59% from the same period last year. Besides, the number of persons and vehicles for exit and entry via the border gate has seen a sharp increase in each year.
At present, Cha Lo border gate economic zone has seven investment projects with total registered capital of nearly VND180 billion.

Speaking at the ceremony, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee affirmed that the estabishment of Cha Lo border gate economic zone plays an important role to the socio-economic development of the province in the forthcoming years. This will be a bridge to call upon foreign and domestic investors to the province.
