Her grandparents had to sell their rice field to pay the hospital charges. After their story published on Dantri/DTiNnews, many people donated them.
After the 4th chemotherapy at Hanoi National Cancer Hospital K3 in Tan Trieu, Thao’s condition has improved. However, the disease is in critical stage, so she needs more tests for more effective treatment.
Doctors consider maintaining the current treatment for several times before conducting the re-assessment or marrow transplant.
Dr Le Van Quang, deputy director of Hanoi National Cancer Hospital K3 in Tan Trieu, said that the girl has got the donation of around VND4 billion, so her grandparents want to send her abroad for the treatment.
The hospital has invited French doctors to Hanoi for consultation and held an online consultation with Singaporean doctors on Thao’s state to help the family to understand more about the next treatment regime.
Thao’s grandfather Nguyen Thanh Hien expressed his deep thanks to the great donation. He used VND480 million (USD20,869) of this to assist other patients.
According to Hien, he was shocked at many people did not understand Thao’s condition; questioning that why he did not take her abroad for the treatment despite receiving the big financial support. Some phoned or even came to his house to reproach him assuming he had tried to keep the money for other purposes.
Some asked him to send them money so that they could bring Thao abroad for the treatment.
“I want to seek the opinions of doctors about this before making the decision. That is the reason why I have not yet taken her overseas,” Hien explained.
