Traditional Boat Racing Festival on Kien Giang River
Attending the festival, there were 18 male teams and 12 female teams with nearly 800 athletes from Lien Thuy, Phong Thuy, Loc Thuy, An Thuy, Xuan Thuy, Son Thuy communes and Kien Giang town. The male racing boats divided into two groups of A and B, each group included 9 racing boats.
From early in the morning, thousands of local people and tourists gathered along the two banks to enjoy and cheer the race teams coming from different region.
After nearly two hours of competition with the length of about 24 km, the first prizes were given to two teams of An Xa and Loc Thuong villages, second prizes to Son Thuy and Thuong Giang and third prizes to Phu Tho and Dai Phong. Regarding the female racing boats, team of Tuy Loc village won the first prize, Thuong Phong and An Xa won the second and the third respectively. Regarding the entire group, the first prize was given to An Xa village, the second to Thuong Phong and the third to Quy Hau.
The racing boat festival on Kien Giang River is one of the old sports activities, associated with the cultural and spiritual life of the local residents and becomes a traditional cultural character of Le Thuy people.
