US$1.2 million to build storm resistant houses for the poor

(Quang Binh Website) - The Vietnam Red Cross is implementing a project to build 1,000 storm resistant houses worth US$1.2 million for poor people in 13 provinces, which are often hit by natural disasters.

"The project will be implemented in the provinces of Hoa Binh, Son La, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Thua Thien Hue, Da Nang, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh and Phu Yen", said Mr. Nguyen Huu Thang, an expert of the Vietnam Red Cross.

Beneficiaries entitled from the project are poor people who suffered seriously from Storm No.5 and flood in 2007 and were not able to build new houses.

Each storm resistant house will cost VND25-35 million, of which the Vietnam Red Cross will provide a support with VND19 million to build concrete houses.

The Vietnam Red Cross said that 1,000 storm resistant houses would be completed by the end of August.
