At the press conference, Province Vice-chairman Tran Cong Thuat presented the report on the province's socio-economic situation in January 2009 and approved some raising issues in the past time.

As to the ferry accident happened on January 25, the last day of the Year of the Rat in Quang Hai commune and killed 42 people, the Provincial People's Committee timely directed all levels and branches in searching, rescuing and burying the body of victims and helped the bereaved families overcome difficulties and stabilize the life and production. Concurrently, the Provincial People's Committee praised and awarded five members who joined in rescuing 35 passengers of the boat, reviewed and punished the objects relating to the riverboat accident on January 25.

As to the support for the poor on Tet holiday: Implementing the policy of the Government on supporting rice and money for the poor to welcome Tet holiday, the Provincial People's Committee urgently extracted from local budget in advance to support for poor households with VND200,000 per person and up to VND1,000,000 per household. In the process of implementation, however, many negative phenomena happened in the localities. In order to solve this matter, the province established an inspection delegation to go to the localities so as to check the distribution for the poor on the last Tet holiday. After having the result of inspection delegation, the province will hold a meeting to review the violative individuals, depending on the rate of violation to strictly deal with the cases in accordance with legal regulations.
