Activities to help poor people on the occasion of Lunar New Year

(Quang Binh Website) – On the occasion of Lunar New Year, on January 22, the Red Cross of Dong Hoi City in coordination with the City’s Department of Labor – War Invalids and Social Affairs held a ceremony to grant the “Tet for poor people and AO victims” gifts to difficulties families in the area.

At the ceremony, the city’s leaders wished people a happy and peaceful Tet and presented 100 gifts to poor households, worth VND300,000 each. The City’s Red Cross also granted gifts to 6 AO victims and 15 households who have especially difficult circumstance in the area. With a total value of more than VND100 million, these gifts have contributed to help poor people on the occasion of the Tet festival.

* In the afternoon of January 22, in Nghia Ninh commune, Dong Hoi city, the Quang Binh Red Cross held a ceremony to present gifts of the Red Cross Society - the International Red Crescent to flood hit people in last October, 2010.

The Association presented nearly VND57 million to 99 difficult households, contributing to improving the life for the people on the Tet festival. In this term, the Association will also grant money in aid to flood hit people in 24 communes in the provincial area with a total value of more than VND3 billion. This is a meaningful activity under the Program named “Tet for poor people and AO victims” launched by Vietnam Red Cross Central Committee in order to help poor people overcome their difficulties and welcome a happy New Year, 2011.

It is known that apart from supporting money, the provincial Red Cross have also implemented many activities, such as building 100 houses for the people in six districts and supporting 400 cows to help people resume their production…
