At the ceremony, Secretary of the Dong Hoi City Party Committee Tran Cong Thuat briefly presented the founding and development of Dong Hoi City. After only ten years since its establishment (August 16, 2004), the city has developed into a modern and civilised urban area acting as the political, socio-economic, tourism and service centre of the central north region. The economic growth rate has reached over 13% a year; economic structure has shifted towards increasing the density of service and industry. The average income per capita is US$1,850 and the number of poor households fell by 1.3%...

Addressing the ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai praised the city’s achievements in the past time, hoping that the Party Committee and people of Dong Hoi city would continue upholding their patriotic tradition of Quang Binh motherland.

He also urged the province to mobilise resources to invest in the potential fields of tourism and services.

On behalf of State and Government leaders, he presented a second-class Independence Medal and a certificate to the city.

On behalf of Quang Binh province, Secretary Luong Ngoc Binh thanked the government, ministries and central agencies for their assistance, and congratulated and praised great achievements that the Party Committee, authorities and people of Dong Hoi city obtained in the past time.

In order to build and develop Dong Hoi city as a second-grade urban area acting as the political, socio-economic, tourism and service centre of the province, he asked the municipal authorities to focus on promoting economic structure shifting towards exploiting the potential fields and advantages of the city; renovating economic growth with the focus on paying attention to developing services, especially tourism services; mobilising all resources for infrastructure investment to promote socio-economic development and so on.
