A "community-based disaster risk management in urban and rural settings" project launched in Quang Binh

The project will be implemented at a cost of 600,000 EUR (over US$676,400) funded by the German Red Cross Society.
The goal of the project is to mitigate the adverse impacts of increasingly common and serious natural disasters to residents in rural and urban areas.
Beneficiaries will include Bao Ninh commune and Phu Hai ward of Dong Hoi city and Mai Hoa and Thuan Hoa communes of Tuyen Hoa district which have been heavily affected by natural disasters during the past time.
The project, scheduled to last during three years (from 2015 to 2018), is expected to directly benefit 4,000 people and more than 24,000 others indirectly.
Accordingly, the localities and at least four schools will build their own action plans and backup plans and undertake disaster resilience measures such as adapting livelihoods to climate change. The provincial disaster response teams and Red Cross staff and volunteers will receive training in ensuring safe houses, clean water and environmental hygiene while communication activities will be ramped up to improve public awareness.

Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee speaks at the workshop
Speaking at the workshop, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee stressed that Quang Binh was the locality which is heavily affected by natural disasters, hence, the "community-based disaster risk management in urban and rural settings" project in Quang Binh was a good opportunity for the province to have more experience in adaptation with natural disaster.
Vice Chairman also asked related agencies to have a close coordination to effectively implement the project.
