Vallet scholarships awarded to 272 outstanding studetns in central provinces

(Quang Binh Portal) – A granting-ceremony of Vallet scholarships in the 2014-2015 school year to students from Quang Binh, Quang Tri and Ha Tinh was held in Dong Hoi city on August 27.

The event was organized by Meeting Vietnam organisation in coordination with the Provincial Study Promotion Society. Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Tien Hoang attended the event.

In the 2014-2015 school year, Vallet scholarships were awarded to 272 outstanding students from universities, colleges and high schools from the central provinces of Quang Binh, Quang Tri and Ha Tinh. Of which, 192 scholarships were given to students in Quang Binh province.

The scholarships are worth roughly VND1.8 billion. Each high school student received a scholarship worth VND6 million (US$270), while college and university students, post-graduates and research students received VND 10 million (US$410) each.

This is the 15th consecutive year the Vallet Scholarship has been awarded to excellent students from universities, colleges and high schools in Vietnam.

The Vallet Scholarship Fund was established by French Professor Odon Vallet from France's Sorbonne University through the Meeting Vietnam organisation founded by Vietnamese-French Professor Tran Thanh Van.

Since its establishment in 2001, the Vallet Scholarship Fund has awarded nearly 20,000 scholarships to outstanding students in Vietnam. The Fund has set aside more than US$1 million to award 2,250 outstanding Vietnamese students this year.

Addressing the event, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee expressed his thanks to Professor Tran Thanh Van, Professor Le Kim Ngoc, Meeting Vietnam organisation and Professor Odon Vallet for their special concerns to students in Vietnam in general and Quang Binh in particular. He believed that Vallet scholarship would contribute to developing the talents in the future.
