Deputy Director General of VNAT works with tourism sector of four Central provinces

(Quang Binh Portal) - On May 7th, Deputy Director General of Viet Nam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT) (Ministry of Culture, Sport and Tourism), Mr. Ngo Hoai Chung and his mission had a meeting with leaders of tourism sector in four provinces of Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Quang Tri and Thua Thien Hue on the influences of recent mass fish deaths to tourism activity in the central seaside provinces.

At the meeting, leading representatives of tourism sector in four provinces of Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Quang Tri and Thua Thien Hue reported on tourism activities after thousands of dead fish washed up onshore. Specifically, the number of tourists travelling on the recent Reunification Day and May Day holiday decreased about 50 percent; the capacity for using rooms fell down against the same period last year; many tours were cancelled or moved to other localities; businesses on well-known beaches saw a sharp reduction in the number of visitors. Notably, seafood restaurants were deserted, as were the seafood markets...

In order to overcome this situation, tourism sector of four central provinces has taken many measures to attract tourists such as changing menu to serve tourists, opting instead for local pork, chicken, and freshwater fish; ensuring food safety and hygience for tourists; diversifying forms of products and services; opening locations to sell safe seafood...

Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Director General of VNAT highly appreciated the efforts in solving difficulties of tourism sector in four localities. In order to promote tourism development, he asked the provinces to diversify products, connect destinations and tours, strengthen supervision of seafood in local restaurants to ensure food safety and hygience, control an increase in prices at destinations...

On behalf of VNAT, Deputy Director General promised to put forward a great many ideas to the Government to reduce interests and taxes for tourism enterprises in four provinces of Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Quang Tri and Thua Thien Hue.
