The launching ceremony was attended by Mr. Hoang Dang Quang, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Council; Mr. Nguyen Huu Hoai, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; members of provincial leaders and representatives of departments and branches.

On the side of Hai Phong city, there were leaders of the Hai Phong city and related agencies together with representatives of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, Jetstar Pacific and travel enterprises of the two provinces.

Cutting ribbons to launch new air route of Dong Hoi (Quang Binh) - Cat Bi (Hai Phong)

This is the first time that Quang Binh and Hai Phong have set up an air route with low-cost services to meet the travelling demand of people between the two regions, promoting tourism growth of the localities.

The low-cost carrier Jetstar Pacific will operate flights between the northern port city of Hai Phong and the central province of Quang Binh, aiming to offer more choices for passengers in the north central and northern coastal regions.

The carrier will conduct three round-trip flights a week, on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, using 180-seat Airbus A320 aircraft.

Flights from Hai Phong’s Cat Bi Airport will depart at 5.35pm and the return leg at 7.10pm from Quang Binh’s Dong Hoi Airport. The total flight duration will be one hour.

On the first day of operation, nearly 250 passengers have booked tickets for the first flights between Hai Phong and Quang Binh. At present, nearly 3,000 passengers have also registered seats.

On the occasion, cheap tickets are provided from 190,000 VND on www.jetstar.com for flights.

The opening of Hai Phong-Dong Hoi air route is part of a tourism development cooperation programme between Jetstar Pacific, Hai Phong city and Quang Binh province. It is also part of the dual-brand strategy between the carrier and Vietnam Airlines to enlarge the flight network, meeting demands from customers and stimulating tourism growth.

Quang Binh province is home to a line-up of stunning landscapes, especially the world's natural heritage site, Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park, which have drawn increasing attraction from both domestic and foreign holiday-makers. Meanwhile, Hai Phong is one of the significant economic centres in the north with huge potentials for tourism development.

Speaking at the launching ceremony, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Huu Hoai said the opening of Dong Hoi - Cat Bi new air route not only meets the travelling demand of people between the two regions, but also links Quang Binh with famous destinations of Hai Phong, Quang Ninh, Hai Duong and Thai Binh. It also marks a new development period of the air transport sector and is one of solutions to develop tourism between Quang Binh and Hai Phong.

On behalf of provincial leaders, Chairman praised and acknowledged the Jetstar Pacific's efforts in opening Dong Hoi - Cat Bi new air route with low-cost services. Chairman pledged that Quang Binh province would create all favorable conditions for Jetstar Pacific to effectively operate the flights. He also asked the media agencies to popularise new air route to local people and tourists, improving operational effectiveness of the air route, contributing to promote socio-economic development of the province.
