In the afternoon of August 08 2009, Dong Hoi city held a closing ceremony of football tournament to win Larue Beer Cup 2009. Attending the tournament, there were 16 teams, including 9 teams from communes and wards and 7 teams from the bloc of agencies, enterprises and clubs. After four days of competition, the Organizing Board awarded the first prizes to Hai Dinh ward and the Ngoc Toan Coffee Enterprise; the second prizes were given to Bac Ly ward and Quan Hau Football Club (Quang Ninh district) and the third prizes were given to Dong Phu ward and the Cuc Thuyen Petroleum Enterprise.

In the morning of August 15 2009, Dong Hoi city also organized the 10th traditional boat competition 2009 on Nhat Le River. This is a long-time boat competition of Dong Hoi people.
