East Meets West helps poor students complete school

(Quang Binh Portal) - The Provincial People"s Committee on October 1 received an aid from the East Meets West to support the Scholarship Program to Enhance Literacy and Learning (SPELL) for poor students in the province.

Established in 2004 by the US-based East Meets West organisation, SPELL is an education scholarship program designed to prevent disadvantaged students from dropping out of school and promote school completion and a brighter future through education.

Accordingly, SPELL will be carried out in districts of Le Thuy, Bo Trach, Tuyen Hoa and Minh Hoa until June of 2016.

A total of scholarships is worth US$81,731, of which US$ 74,285 from East Meets West and 7,428 from corresponding capital of provincial budget.

SPELL provides scholarships to students to cover the costs of tuition, books, studying tools, uniforms, bicycles, insurrances an other school expenses.

The Provincial People's Committee asked the Provincial Study Promotion Society and related units and localities to receive and effectively use source of aids according to regulations of the State.
