A groundbreaking ceremony was held for the construction of steel plant in Quang Binh on June 03 2008. Attending the ceremony was Head of MoI’s Department of Machinery, Metallurgy and Chemicals Nguyen Manh Quan; Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee Phan Lam Phuong, Vices-chairperson of the PPC; representative of all levels of government, districts, city and executive units.

Provincial leaders issue an order to begin construction of steel plant in Quang Binh

Quang Binh steel plant project is built in Nam Lanh hamlet, Quang Phu commune, Quang Trach district, Quang Binh province with the area of 35 ha. The project, invested by Anh Trang Company Ltd, has a total investment capital of VND 1,035 trillion, in which capital construction investment and equipment of VND 885 billion, liquid capital of VND150 billion.

The plant will be built in two phases over 18 months (from June 2008 to December 2009). In the first phase, the plant will be capable of producing 250,000 tonnes of products a year, including 231,600 tonnes of steel ingot. The second phase will help bring the plant’s capacity to 500,000 tonnes a year with automation technology. The plant will mainly use iron ore from mines in Quang Binh province and its neighbouring province, Ha Tinh, and the rest will be imported.

When it is put into operation, the plant will attract about 1,000 laborers and contribute to the budget from VND100 - 200 billion a year. Under the plan, the plant will achieve 75% of designed capacity for the first year, and 100% for the fourth year and later.

In the point of view of representatives of the provincial leader and head of MoI’s Department of Machinery, Metallurgy and Chemicals Nguyen Manh Quan, the groundbreaking ceremony for construction of the steel plant in Quang Binh is an important event of the Industry Department of Vietnam in general and Quang Binh province in particular. Once operational, the plant will contribute to promoting the province’s socio-economic development, solving jobs for thousands of laborers in the whole province. The provincial leaders also asked the Anh Trang Company.Ltd to coordinate with the executive units to work out the construction of the plant as scheduled.
