A meeting to discuss the plan for organizing activities to mark the 65th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnamese People’s Army and the 20th anniversary of All People’s Defence Day

(Quang Binh Website) - On August 20, the Provincial Steering Committee held a meeting to discuss the plan for organizing activities in commemoration of the 65th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnamese People’s Army (December 22 1944 - December 22 2009) and the 20th anniversary of All People’s Defence Day (December 22 1989 - December 22 2009). Vice-chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Head of the Steering Committee Tran Cong Thuat presided over the meeting.

Attending the meeting was members of the provincial Steering Committee and representatives of related agencies and units.

At the meeting, the Provincial Military Headquarters presented the plan for organizing activities to commemorate the 65th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnamese People’s Army and the 20th anniversary of All People’s Defence Day and assigned special tasks to related agencies, units and localities. Under the plan, many activities will be organized to welcome this event, including: paying a visit to the High Command of Military Zone 4, the Provincial Military Headquarters, the Provincial Border Guard Headquarters, local army units and some disadvantaged families (from December 18 to 22 2009); paying tribute to the Ba Doc Martyrs' Cemetery (December 21); arts performance (from September to December 18); volleyball tournament and marathon race of the Television Cup (from November to December 10) and the official meeting (December 21)...

The 65th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnamese People’s Army and the 20th anniversary of All People’s Defence Day are an opportunity to review the history and heroic tradition of fighting aggressors of the nation, Vietnamese People's Army and Quang Binh province after sixty-five years of building and developing; concurrently raise the nation's pride and uphold the glorious tradition of “Uncle Ho’s soldiers". This is also an opportunity to speed up emulation movements in all localities and agencies; raise the quality of general strength for being ready to defend the national independence; carry out the success of tasks for socio-economic development; strongly consolidate national defence and security; create a new change and raise the quality and effectiveness in implementing national defence-military tasks.

Giving a closing speech at the meeting, Vice-chairman Tran Cong Thuat put forward a great many ideas to successfully organize the 65th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnamese People’s Army and the 20th anniversary of All People’s Defence Day.
