Rescue timely people in submerged areas due to downpours and floods

(Quang Binh Website) - Continuous and torrential rains made water of the Gianh River in Mai Hoa commune and Kien Giang River in Le Thuy district exceed the alarming level III classification.

Quang Binh Province’s Steering Committee for Flood & Storm Prevention & Control and the Committee for Search and Rescue said that at 15pm on October 5, 6 out of the province’s 7 districts have been heavily hit by floods. Consequently, torrential rain and flash floods killed 12 people; submerged nearly 40,000 houses; 181 vessels haven’t been to the mainland. The Provincial Military Headquarter, Public Security and Border Guard sent 13 high-speed boats and 30 soldiers to flooded-prone localities to evacuate local people and respond timely to urgent situations. The Provincial Red Cross granted 5,000 packets of instant for Flood & Storm Prevention & Control and the Committee for Search and Rescue mobilized noodles to flooded-hit areas.

On October 5, 2010 morning, the Province’s Steering Committee armed forces and means of seaway to provide timely necessities like food, drinks, medicines and petroleum to flooded-hit people.

At 17pm on October 5, helicopter of Military Zone No.4 taking the provincial leaders was on a fact-finding tour of the flood-stricken areas and provided food for people.

Before, the Mi17-411 helicopter of Division B72 from Da Nang Airport carrying a ton of instant noodles, lifebuoys and rescue means granted to flooded hit people in districts of Quang Trach, Quang Ninh and Le Thuy. At present, more then 10 tons of instant noodles are prepared in Dong Hoi Airport to relieve people in isolated areas.
