Joining efforts to help people in central Vietnam

A programme called” Humanitarian Strength 2010” will be held in HCM City on November 13 by the Vietnam Red Cross (VNRC), in collaboration with Vietnam Television (VTV) and the Long Viet Media Joint Stock Company to raise funds for flood victims in central Vietnam.

The program involves Party, State and municipal leaders, and renowned singers, and will be broadcast live on VTV2 and VTV4 at 20:00 on November 13.

By November 6, the VNRC had donated VND12 billion and more than 100 tonnes of essential goods to flood victims. Through the VNRC, domestic and foreign orgnisations also supported people in the central region with more than VND43 billion, in which more than VND14 billion was raised via SMS service.

The VNRC will continue to call for fund-raising efforts to buy thousands of breeding cows for households whose property was swept way by the historic floods in October and build hundreds of houses, each worth VND30 million for those who lost their homes.

*** On November 6, the Fatherland Front and the Fund for the Poor in An Giang province transferred VND300 million to people in the central provinces of Nghe An, Quang Binh and Ha Tinh to help them overcome the consequences of the flood and stablise their lives.

Meanwhile, the An Giang Plant Protection Joint Stock Company granted Quang Binh 100 tonnes of rice, medicine and medical equipment to provide free medical examinations and drugs for people affected by the floods.

The same day, Mergastar Group in Hanoi donated gifts worth VND300 million along with clothes and household goods to families and pupils in Can Loc district, Ha Tinh province.
