Month for the Poor launched

(Quang Binh Website) - In response to the campaign "Day for the Poor" and social welfare program "Deleting temporary houses for poor households", on October 17, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee (VFFCC) of Quang Binh province and the Provincial Campaign Board "Day for the Poor" held a ceremony to launch a “Month for the Poor 2011”.

Attending the ceremony were Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Council Luong Ngoc Binh; members of the Standing Committee of the Provincial People's Council, People's Committee and Quang Binh VFFCC together with representatives of agencies, units and enterprises.

From 2009 to now, the fund for the poor has raised VND144,660 million to repair and build 9,260 houses for the poor with the value of VND72,225 million and carry out many social welfare projects across the province. Alone 2011, the fund has donated VND25 billion to build and repair 3,296 houses for the poor.

At the ceremony, departments, organizations, individuals and businesses in the province have pledged to contribute to the fund for the poor with an estimated amount of VND5,584 million. This is a meaningful activity, contributing to improving the life for the poor in the province.

Addressing the ceremony, Secretary Luong Ngoc Binh praised the good deeds and great contributions for the poor performed by all levels, agencies, organizations, individuals and businesses, contributing to promoting socio-economic development, especially people in ethnic group.

Mr Binh stressed that poverty reduction is a major policy of the Party and State aimed at ensuring socio-political stability and sustainable development.

Secretary Luong Ngoc Binh also called on departments, organizations, localities and benefactors to support the “Day for the Poor” campaign and social welfare programmes, raise funds for the poor and help those living in disadvantaged areas to escape poverty, develop production and improve the spiritual and material life.
