Dong Hoi city (Quang Binh) is located in the Central coastal region of Vietnam where often suffers many climate change impacts. Therefore, recognising the positive role of women and girls in mitigating natural risks and promoting climate change responses is very essential and important.

With the aim of improving the capacity, role and position of women in response to climate change, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) has funded the project "Harnessing climate change mitigation initiatives to benefit women" in Greater Mekong sub-region countries, including Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia. In Vietnam, Dong Hoi City is selected to carry out a pilot model of the project.

The workshop was a good opportunity for sponsors, local authorities and concerned agencies to increase the awareness and share experience in gender sensitive climate change mitigation activities. The workshop intended to increase the women's capacity in response to natural risks and build institutions and policies with the aim of reaching the gender equality in climate change responses, contributing to affirm the women's role to socio-economic activities and sustainable development of Dong Hoi City in particular and Quang Binh province in general.
