Wrap-up meeting of coastal cities environmental sanitation project

(Quang Binh Website) - A meeting was held in Dong Hoi city on November 22 to wrap up the coastal cities environmental sanitation project, including Nha Trang (Khanh Hoa), Quy Nhon (Binh Dinh) and Dong Hoi (Quang Binh). The meeting was jointly organized by the Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI), World Bank (WB) and the People's Committee of Quang Binh province.

The coastal cities environmental sanitation project is invested by WB through a credit agreement with the Government. The project has a total investment of over USD250 million with main components, including flood control, drainage and wastewater collection; wastewater treatment plant; solid waste management; resettlement and compensation for site clearance; school sanitation and strengthening capacity for implementing the project. The project is expected to complete in November 2014.

The project aims to improve environmental sanitation conditions in sustainable way, raising the quality of life for people in coastal cities. After 76 months of implementation, the project has obtained good results, ensuring the project's quality and progress, environmental sanitation, social safety and financial management... The volume value of work achieved 65% in Nha Trang, 80% in Quy Nhon and 85% in Dong Hoi and total reimbursed credit gained 68%.

The project is expected to complete in April 2014 (Quy Nhon), May 2014 (Dong Hoi) and September 2014 (Nha Trang).

Speaking at the meeting, Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Binh province Nguyen Huu Hoai thanked MPI and WB for implementation of the environmental sanitation project in coastal cities and promised to direct relevant units and localities to quickly complete the progress as scheduled plan.
